A global operator sought to underpin the operational reliability, uptime, and maintenance efficiency of their new-build development in the North Sea.

Based on our successful delivery of the facilities’ maintenance program prior to commissioning, Oceaneering’s Maintenance and Reliability Solutions team was contracted to implement an operational reliability strategy to support the facilities during operations.

Our Solution

In 2022, a team of Oceaneering reliability and maintenance engineers were embedded directly into the client’s operational framework.

This strategic integration provided the client with experienced resources, dedicated to improving operational reliability and maintaining uptime targets, aided by a deep understanding of the facilities’ design and day-to-day operations.

Working within the client’s operations team, our reliability engineers are on hand to quickly perform comprehensive analysis to address asset reliability issues. Using techniques such as root cause analysis, reliability studies, and the implementation of condition monitoring regimes, they identify and mitigate emerging asset vulnerabilities to optimize asset availability. Similarly, whenever asset performance is in question, operational efficiency studies are used to ensure assets are operating at peak efficiency.

Meanwhile, the maintenance engineering efforts are focused on continuously refining the initial maintenance program to ensure the facilities’ evolving operational needs are met. This includes managing changes across the asset hierarchy, maintenance plans, and spare parts strategies. Crucially, the Oceaneering team is responsible for implementing revised data into the client’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Key initiatives include:
  • Conducting failure assessments to pinpoint and resolve system weaknesses.
  • Analyzing the production loss register and corrective work orders to develop targeted proactive recommendations for operational improvements.
  • Establishing robust online and offline monitoring strategies to pre-emptively address emerging threats.
  • CMMS Management of Change (MOC).
Results

The successful collaboration between Oceaneering and the client is now in its third year and has yielded significant improvements in operational reliability and efficiency of the facilities.

Our integrated operational reliability strategy has led to increased asset uptime by reducing unplanned maintenance downtime and contributes to a proactive maintenance culture that anticipates and mitigates potential issues before they affect operations.

By embedding our personnel into the client’s team and daily operations, our ongoing support extends beyond immediate operational needs.
