Chad Black serves as the Project Management Lead for Oceaneering’s Subsea Robotics segment. Based in Morgan City, Louisiana, Chad leads a team of 13 project managers and coordinators in support of exceeding customer expectations and project requirements.

From Navy Chief Petty Officer to Project Management Lead
Chad’s career journey is marked by dedication, resilience, and commitment. In 2011, after serving 13.5 years in the United States Navy, he was medically retired as a Chief Petty Officer specializing in explosive ordnance disposal. His transition to civilian employment included roles in the remediation of unexploded ordnance, transportation and logistics, and beginning in 2014, the offshore oilfield’s remotely operated vehicle (ROV) industry.
After five years of ROV operations coordinator experience, Chad joined Oceaneering in 2019 as an Operations Coordinator for Subsea Robotics’ ROV and Tooling Group. Within a few months, he was promoted to Operations Manager, followed by a four-year tenure as Project Manager. Today, as the Project Management Lead, he brings a wealth of experience to his role.
A Typical Day
A typical day for Chad involves developing and implementing strategic goals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and ensuring that his team manages their projects and customers effectively. He guides his team through the complexities of subsea robotics projects in the oilfield and renewable energy markets across the Gulf of Mexico, portions of Europe, and offshore Guyana and Nigeria.
