In February 2021, Oceaneering’s Maintenance and Reliability Solutions team embarked on a pilot project to develop and implement a facility maintenance management program for an established European energy industry client.

Following the success of the pilot in mid-2021, the project moved to the implementation of a comprehensive program covering twelve in country facilities. The scope included dedicated office spaces and other buildings collocated alongside the client's various onshore process plants.

Having a long history of completing maintenance engineering projects for the client, Oceaneering was tasked with meeting their end goal: improving operational oversight while also increasing standardization of processes across facilities.

Our Solution

The first phase of the project involved collating and evaluating all existing asset data related to the facilities and their systems.

Oceaneering engineers used their existing experience working with the client’s Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to develop standardized and flexible processes while combining data from various legacy systems into a single, central CMMS.

The maintenance strategy development then commenced, covering all maintainable equipment while placing primary focus on the facilities’ most critical infrastructure including elevators, fire doors, and fire detection and alarms. The development was aligned with national standards, ensuring all maintenance activities not only met regulatory requirements but also embodied best practices. Standardization was a primary goal, but our flexible framework also allowed for the incorporation of bespoke tasks, as needed.

The team also established a user-friendly Power Bi dashboard solution that unifies key data from the client’s CMMS and other databases, providing a clear, near real-time overview of the status of each individual facility. This centralized oversight is crucial for supporting exacting standards across all facilities.

Results

Our comprehensive approach to integrating and aligning all data across the twelve facilities under a single CMMS has delivered significant benefits while providing the client with confidence the facilities are both safe and reliable.

With consistent and structured data and the adoption of user-friendly digital innovations, end users are able to improve decision making with enhanced oversight and easy access to relevant maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs).

Such was the success achieved across the initial twelve facilities, the project’s operational phase has been extended by the client, with efforts to expand the scope of our services to additional sites ongoing.
