Visão geral

In 2025, our team completed a multi-year project focused on survey and installation scopes for a floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) mooring line project at a newly commissioned deepwater field in Brazilian waters.

The planning phase started in 2023, enabling our team to develop comprehensive procedures that aligned with client requirements. The project required precise mapping of subsea corridors, careful coordination of vessel activities, and the use of innovative anchor deployment monitoring technology to meet stringent regulatory and client specifications.

Our Plan

Our approach centered on delivering high-precision survey services and technical support for the installation of torpedo anchors in a newly commissioned deepwater field.

From the outset, we prioritized innovation and operational excellence, using a combination of work-class veículos operados remotamente (ROVs) and advanced multi-beam sonar technology to map approximately 150 kilometers of subsea corridors. This meticulous mapping ensured best placement of mooring lines and anchors, meeting both regulatory and technical requirements.

A standout innovation in this project was the deployment of a real-time visual positioning system, marking Oceaneering’s first use of this technology in the region. This technology enabled our team to monitor and adjust torpedo anchors during free-fall installation with unprecedented accuracy. By using subsea cameras and coded targets, we could confirm anchor positions in real time, significantly enhancing both safety and operational efficiency. The system’s immediate feedback reduced risk, streamlined installation, and set a new benchmark for anchor deployment in deepwater environments.

Throughout the project, our survey and ROV teams worked collaboratively to adapt to evolving requirements and logistical challenges. The use of multi-beam sonar provided detailed seabed data, supporting precise decision-making and compliance with stringent specifications. Our team’s flexibility and expertise ensured that all survey deliverables and torpedo installation support were completed to the highest standards, even as vessel availability and project scope shifted.

Value Delivered

We delivered high-precision survey services and technical support for the installation of the client’s torpedo anchors, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and innovation.

This meticulous mapping ensured optimal placement of mooring lines and anchors, meeting both regulatory and technical requirements. The anchors and the mooring lines are currently in-situ subsea, awaiting the arrival of the FPSO.

Key Takeaways and Benefits
  • High-accuracy subsea positioning for critical installations using GNSS, INS, USBL, and V-Lock systems.
  • Innovative torpedo pile installation: Deployed 24 torpedoes with real-time monitoring, improving safety and efficiency over traditional piling methods.
  • Comprehensive data and reporting: Delivered 338 daily production reports (DRPs), 117 signed field memos, and 30 terabytes of survey data, supporting transparent decision-making.
  • Local expertise and global support: Deployed 100 percent personnel local content and coordinated 28 offshore crew across three vessels, backed by 21 members of an onshore support team.
  • Efficient operations: Maintained 100 percent uptime during the MBES campaign and delivered all milestones on schedule, despite changes in scope and vessel availability.
