Preeti Arya is a manager for Oceaneering’s Leading Client Platforms team based in Chandigarh, India. Preeti values her career journey and finds the support and guidance of her team to be the most rewarding.

“When I started as an analyst, I never knew I would grow and mature with the business and the people around to help expand my skills. You start to love everything when you have support and guidance. You not only learn but teach others and become a better version of yourself.”

Preeti came to Oceaneering with a deep desire to learn. For the last 13 years, she continued to develop her skills, and was quickly promoted from analyst in the IT Helpdesk (GSC-IT) to Lead Technician. In 2018, she was promoted to Technologist II. She credits her promotions on her eagerness for education.

“Learning, educating, and researching is in me. It’s a driving force that keeps me moving and making me stronger and helping me grow.”

As a child, Preeti always knew technology was a passion for her. She recalls being drawn to Sci-Fi movies, science, and robots, and merits the development of her listening skills to hearing childhood stories that swayed her imagination.

“Sci-fi movies were a treat for me, which gave me an urge to get into technology. I feel that is how it starts for everyone, it’s just a matter of getting and grabbing the opportunity.”

When asked what’s the biggest challenge she has faced as a woman in a technology field, she stated that growing and gaining respect with equal career earnings in a male-dominated field was one of her biggest challenges.

“It’s not easy to grow and gain respect with equal career earning in a male-dominated field. Your technical skills will get you in the door but being able to articulate your views among different audiences will earn you the respect you deserve.”

Preeti encourages the next generation of women to get out of their comfort zone. “Take over new jobs and responsibilities. Get in the spotlight and connect with successful people.”

One piece of advice she says she wishes she had before she began her career is to “grab your opportunities and be loud.”
