Lisa Tinline is a Project Manager for Oceaneering’s Subsea Distribution Solutions based in Rosyth, Scotland. The most rewarding aspect of her job at Oceaneering is helping to bring large projects to life.

As a project manager, Lisa helps to manage the schedule of manufactured products to ensure timely delivery to meet client expectations. Oceaneering’s Rosyth facility is one of three centers where Oceaneering designs and manufactures subsea umbilicals and other hardware.

In her time as project manager, one of the most challenging, yet rewarding projects Lisa worked on was a 110 km umbilical project that needed to be completed for a client on a compressed schedule.

“Typically, the schedule for this product would be anywhere around 18 to 24 months, however, this project had a schedule of just 13 months,” she said.

“There were various products from multiple suppliers required to be delivered to the site in order for the manufacturing processes to commence and execute. The project deliverables included an umbilical at over 110 km in length to be fully manufactured, terminated, tested, and delivered, making the longest single-length umbilical manufactured at the time.”

Before joining Oceaneering, Lisa’s previous roles were in Business Development and Sales. She had not yet considered taking on Project Management or even a career in oil and gas. She became attracted to the Project Management position because it presented an opportunity for engagement within a multifaceted environment, a key aspect she desired in a role.

“The opportunity in project management opened up for me with Oceaneering, and it seemed engaging and rewarding. So, I took advantage of it; and I was right to do so. For 10 years, I have continuously progressed in this path.”

Lisa said she is thankful to Oceaneering for its full support in her progress in her current role.

When asked what’s the biggest challenge she has faced as a woman in the industry, she stressed the importance of drawing on one’s leadership skills.

“The industry is very male dominated, but that can only work to your advantage. Showing others that you are in control as a leader earns a lot of respect from your peers as well as your clients.”

For the next generation of women entering the workforce, Lisa encourages setting personal goals. “Don’t be afraid, set goals and aim high,” she said.

One last piece of advice she says she wishes she had before she began her career is simple:
“Don’t take things personally! Control what you can!”
