December 16, 2022 – Houston, Texas – Oceaneering’s Integrity Management and Digital Solutions group in Aberdeen, UK, provided mentorship and support to young engineers from a range of disciplines participating in this year’s Institute of Corrosion (ICorr) Young Engineers Program (YEP).

The program supports young engineers (graduates) from a range of disciplines who have a specific interest in Corrosion Management. The YEP participants are split into six teams and mentored by designated participating integrity service contractors with the goal of having the engineers produce a case study, serving as an assessment for an international company with facilities based in the UK sector of the North Sea.

This year’s topic was “Corrosion Management of Mature Offshore Platform Facilities” and the findings were presented in person to a panel of judges on the evening of November 24.

Two student teams were supported by employees within the IMDS segment. Alireza Aghasadeghi, Principal Technical Engineer, and Bruce Mackenzie, Technical Manager, served as mentors for Team 5 and 3, respectively. Pieter van der Vyver, Senior Pressure Systems Engineer, gave a lecture on Fitness for Service Assessments and Jim McNab, Principal Engineer, discussed NDT.

Aghasadeghi’s s Team 5 came in first place, with Bruce’s Team 3 winning second place. “The engineers were split into six groups for a case study spanning over five months,” said Bruce Mackenzie. “I am very proud of the work ethic and professionalism of my group who came a close second place at the presentation.”

Aghasadeghi’s group, whose team earned first place, was similarly proud of his team’s ethic and performance. “It was an honor to mentor his group who delivered a strong presentation to achieve a magnificent first prize,” he said.
