Multiplex BOP Control System

  • Customized systems / solutions based on client and rig requirements.
  • Units tested both individually and as integrated systems on-site.
  • System burn-in (infant mortality) conducted by operating units for extended periods of time before and after FAT.
  • Systems utilize RS 485 serial communications. Signals throughout the complete control system are polled 5 times a second.
  • Redundant fiber optic communication links for all surface units to maximize noise immunity.
  • Redundant copper and fiber communication links for surface to subsea pods
  • Command sequence works on “arm and fire” logic followed by “feedback” loop to ensure smooth functionality of system operations.
  • The Oceaneering SCU/Subsea POD Communication System is designed to maximize communication efficiency.
  • Signal time between systems is ~200 milliseconds.
  • Each Safe Card Cassette caters to 24 solenoids at any given time. Signals can be sent to multiple solenoids using single button push / single command from Master Control Station SCU’s.
  • EMERGENCY DISCONNECT SEQUENCE TIMING is not communication limited.
  • Systems contain Diagnostic modes, which include:
    • Ground fault detection of each power supply system, all pressure housings, each solenoid & transducer.
    • Real time water detection in all pressure housings & oil filled chambers.
    • Each solenoid excitation current & voltage is monitored continuously
    • Solenoid/shear-type seal valve turn/on/off voltage/current signatures are recorded
    • Solenoid control channel isolation and solenoid isolation is provided
    • Solenoid arm & fire electronics (safe) cassette feedback to surface

Constructed of contemporary, corrosion resistant alloys and utilizing state-of-the-art technology, the field proven, Oceaneering Multiplex (MUX) Control Pod is designed and engineered to meet the increasing challenges of drilling in ultra-deep water. The MUX Control Pod is built for a long, reliable service life while operating in harsh subsea environments. In addition, the “plug and play” design allows for a quick (15 minute, once accessible) mean time to repair (MTTR) and requires no pre-deployment configuration.

The Master Control Station (MCS) is the central point of control for the BOP Control System. Internal to the enclosure are power supplies, microprocessors, video interface processors, and communications electronics. The network communications equipment will provide the system interface for all inputs and the updating of status outputs.

The Driller and Toolpusher’s Control Panels (DCP and TCP) are part of the main BOP MUX Control System. The system utilizes dedicated remote control panels, which interface to the System Control Units (SCUs).
