Olympic Intervention IV Due in Gulf of Mexico

Christened July 12, in Aalesund, Norway, the Olympic Intervention IV is chartered for an initial term of five years to Oceaneering International, Inc as previously announced. The vessel was built by Olympic Shipping AS and will commence operations in the Gulf of Mexico as planned for subsea hardware installation such as umbilicals, subsea trees, jumpers, flying leads and manifolds following Gulf of Mexico sea trials. The vessel can also perform inspection, repair and maintenance (IRM) projects and is capable of well intervention services including riserless wireline, electric line, and plug and abandonment operations using the Subsea Intervention Lubricator System (SILS®).. . .

 
Oceaneering International, Inc. Acquires Symmetry Ltda

Oceaneering International, Inc. has acquired Symmetry Ltda, a Brazilian engineering consulting company.  Symmetry specializes in providing computerized monitoring and control systems and unique subsea products utilized in the development of offshore oil and gas reserves.  The monitoring and control systems are used for dynamic positioning, mooring, pipelaying, and riser applications.  The subsea products include a flexible pipe connector repair clamp.

 
USS Mesa Verde Commissioned in Panama City, FL

The USS Mesa Verde, the US Navy’s newest vessel and the third San Antonio class amphibious transport dock, was commissioned December 15, 2007 at Port Panama City, FL.  The 684-ft ship was built in Pascagoula, MS and is capable of embarking a landing force of up to 800 Marines.  The Mesa Verde’s home port will be in Norfolk, VA.

For nine days of pre-commissioning activities the Mesa Verde was docked at the Oceaneering® Multiflex Panama City umbilical and cable manufacturing facility.  Oceaneering International, Inc. (OII) personnel supported the Navy crew and OII was recognized as a “Plankowner”, the traditional entitlement given to original members of the commissioning crew to claim one plank of a ship upon eventual decommissioning.

 
SILS Slides Sleeves During Riserless Intervention Work

Oceaneering International, Inc. and alliance partner Superior Energy Services used the Subsea Intervention Lubricator System (SILS) for Gulf of Mexico well intervention in late 2007.  The system successfully closed and isolated a depleted lower zone and opened a productive upper zone in a subsea well for an independent operator.

 
WWII Mystery Solved with HD Technology

High Definition video and photographs of a World War II submarine believed to be the USS Grunion (SS216) have potentially solved a 65-year-old mystery for family members of the vessel’s skipper, Lt. Cmdr. Mannert L. Abele.

The sub was lost with a crew of 70 north of Kiska Island near Alaska in July 1942.  There were several wrecks in the area and a potential target for exploration was located during a seismic survey in 2006.  One of the wrecks was identified as the Grunion on a 2007 expedition with technology supplied by Deep Sea Systems International, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Oceaneering International, Inc. 

 
M-7 Sat Diving System Completes 760 Bell Runs

The Oceaneering International, Inc. M-7 Saturation Diving System has reached 760 bell runs during daily operations for a single customer on a long term platform salvage and plug and abandonment contract. Saturation divers have worked each bell run in depths to about 400fsw performing tasks from well access, debris cutting and well killing to temporary and permanent plug and abandonment operations.  Even with zero visibility conditions and occasional weather delays, a pace averaging 1-2 runs per day has been maintained throughout the project. 

 
Oceaneering Partners with SERPENT

Oceaneering has joined the SERPENT (scientific and environmental ROV partnership using existing industrial technology) project to collect images of unknown deep sea creatures and rarely seen organisms, evaluate the offshore drilling environment, and gather sediment samples.

 
Oceaneering Acquires CET Medway

Oceaneering International, Inc. has acquired CET Medway Ltd., a Non-Destructive Testing and Inspection Service Company based in Strood, Kent, England. CET Medway was formed in 1986 and provides a comprehensive range of services to the Oil, Gas, Petrochemical, Power and Fabrication market sectors.

 
Astronauts Install Solar Array Panels

Installation of the International Space Station’s P3/P4 Truss Segment, which includes rotating solar array panels, was successfully completed in September 2006.  Astronaut Joe Tanner is shown translating to his next worksite during STS-115 EVA activities.  

 
SILS Upgraded for First Project

Testing of the Pack-off Assembly for the Oceaneering and Superior Energy Services (Blowout Tools Inc) upgraded Subsea Intervention Lubricator System (SILS) unit took place recently at Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, TX.  BP, Oceaneering and Superior Energy Services are planning a Q1 2007 vessel based well intervention utilizing the SILS for BP’s Marlin #2 well located in VK-915 in 3500fsw. 

 

 
International ROV Competition Held at NBL

The 6th International ROV Competition organized by the Marine Advanced Technology Education Center (MATE) and the Marine Technology Society’s (MTS) ROV Committee took place in Clear Lake, TX at NASA’s Neutral Buoyancy Lab June 23-25.

 

 
The Performer Works GOM

Oceaneering’s 315 ft multi-service ROV support vessel The Performer is currently providing Gulf of Mexico ROV support and has hurricane repair work scheduled next.  The Performer features a Hydra® Millennium 150 hp ROV system and tooling suite, accommodations for 75, a helideck and a 6,781 ft2  work deck area that can be adapted to support a range of underwater operations. The vessel’s capabilities include inspection, maintenance and repair work.

 
Oceaneering Subsea Tieback Seminar Travels To Mexico

Oceaneering presenters held a Subsea Tieback Seminar conducted in Ciudad del Carmen for Pemex employees in March 2006.   Pemex has scheduled their first subsea tieback for 2007 after years of working only on platforms.  The Oceaneering Subsea Tieback Seminar has been offered for the last eight years in Houston, New Orleans and at U.S. company sites.  Over 600 individuals have graduated from the two-day course. 

 
London's Thames Barrier-100 Years Life Project

During 2005 Oceaneering Inspection provided Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and Inspection services to Volker Stevin as part of survey carried out on the Environment Agency's Thames Barrier, London. The survey will be used to determine the existing condition of the steel structure and protective coatings to ensure the barrier will last well into the future.. . . .
