An Oceaneering Customer wished to divert sediment discharge away from a GOM wellhead during drilling in over 4,000fsw and to possibly pump cement through the diverter valves at a later time. There was no way to connect the valves however without ROV intervention.

Working together, employees from Oceaneering ROV and ROV tooling groups conceived a novel solution from standard equipment and procedures. ROV tooling personnel built a tool that centralized a connector for an ROV pilot to thread straight onto the diverter valves. An ROV pilot skillfully installed the connector on the first attempt and without any damage to the valve. The ROV could then quickly and easily connect a hose for future operations.
