Oceaneering Installs Tree for Shell World Record Subsea Completion

Well completion hardware has been installed at a depth of 9627 fsw in the Alaminos Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico by Oceaneering’s Olympic Intervention IV. Completion of the deepwater well, part of Shell’s Perdido Development, demonstrates the light construction capabilities of Oceaneering International, Inc. Project managers planned, engineered and executed the job through all phases with a perfect safety record.

“Six Shooter” Aims for Subsea Safety

Oceaneering “Six Shooter” Accumulator Module (7,500 psi charge pressure) with panel assemblies allowing for subsea charge and operation via ROV without requiring recovery to the surface.

Oceaneering International, Inc. has tested and delivered a Subsea Accumulator Module, dubbed the “Six Shooter”. The Six Shooter is six accumulators, each with 100 gallons per bottle volume and rated for 7,500 psi stored pressure. The module is capable of supplying +100 gallons per minute of pressurized control fluid for BOP intervention operations.

The Six Shooter Subsea Accumulator Module is deployed to rest on a mudmat or parking pile. An ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) actuates standard regulated output pressures of 5,000 and/or 3,000 psi. Other regulated pressures are optional. The unit can be fully recharged subsea via an ROV or rig hotline for emergency operations and is an ideal solution for testing BOP equipment.

Each Six Shooter module is capable of delivering about 142 usable gallons of fluid at 5,000 fsw or 80 usable gallons at 10,000 fsw (7,500 psi charge, 1,500 psi MOP). 100th HD Video System Installed on Oceaneering ROV

Oceaneering has now installed the 100th High Definition (HD) video system in the company’s Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) fleet. The Oceaneering HD ROV video package, designed and manufactured by company subsidiary Deep Sea Systems International Inc. (DSSI), is a broadcast quality system rated to 4000 meter water depth. The camera features a wide angle lens, which enables operators to see their ROV manipulators and the entire work site without panning.

Oceaneering Subsea Projects Group Diving division installed 7 riser clamps, 28 riser and bottom subsea spool sections and 39 subsea flanges. The tie-ins were supported with 64 concrete mats and 138 pallets of bags over 8 crossings. There were 0 incidents/injuries during the 240 dives.

OCEANEERING® BOP Control System

Oceaneering International, Inc. has manufactured a multiplexed Blow Out Preventer (BOP) control system that meets all proposed API RP 53 requirements set forth by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE) since 2008. The OCEANEERING® BOP control system features more redundancies than any other system, including dual power supply circuits, fiber optic and copper wire communications, and master and slave controls. The result is a BOP control system with greater reliability, more real time diagnostics, and better fault-monitoring of critical components during operation than any other system on the market.

Deepwater Drill Support Record Set

An Oceaneering® Millennium® Plus work class Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) has set an ROV ultra deepwater drill support depth record offshore India while working at 3107m (10,194 ft) water depths. Millennium 77 has supported drilling operations on the Dhirubhai Deepwater KG2 for Reliance Industries, logging over 400 hours and 69 total dives at this drill site alone from March to mid-April 2011. Millennium 77 is a 4,000 meter rated system that was put into service in Q1 2010.

BOP Ram Closed at Depth in Less Than 25 Seconds

Oceaneering International, Inc. has successfully closed a subsea BOP ram in less than 25 seconds at 4300 fsw. The test used a company Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and a Subsea Accumulator Module that was designed and manufactured by Oceaneering’s Deepwater Technical Solutions (DTS) group.

The test proved that closing times for Emergency BOP Override Systems can meet or exceed API recommended closing times of 45 seconds on ram functions. To reach the override timing, all ROV intervention points on the BOP were first verified to ensure that they were designed and engineered to allow an unrestricted path to the ram actuator. The BOP was fitted with an Oceaneering provided intervention panel that allowed a full 1-inch ID flow path from the Subsea Accumulator Module to the BOP actuator.
