Oceaneering’s Marine Services Division (MSD) has been part of the marine repair industry for 20 years.
During that period of time, MSD has grown from 14 to over 300 employees with the knowledge, expertise and hands-on experience, required to accomplish the most complex work.
MSD has progressed from a niche market in the repair of submarine weapons loading, launching and handling systems to a company fully capable of providing a wide range of services for the repair and alterations of U. S. military vessels.
MSD has also grown and developed in many other areas to assist our customers. Several of those areas are: underwater repairs, waterfront off-shore structures, Dry-Deck Shelter (DDS) Planning Yard; on-site DDS overhauls; Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services, as well as engineering services. We are committed to grow competencies focused on the needs of our customers.
MSD has developed and nurtured a well-earned reputation for accepting and completing all task requests for government and commercial clients on time and within budget. Our professional staff has proven that we will go to whatever lengths necessary to satisfy our customers.
We combine quality and safety with experienced management and advanced technical expertise to offer complete services to all of our customers.
Marine Services Division History
Consolidated Launcher Technology (CLT) was founded in 1985. Oceaneering International, Inc (OII) acquired CLT in 1999. CLT originally focused on submarine signal launcher and weapons firing system repairs, but immediately gained a reputation as the “go-to” company for “tiger team” emergent submarine and surface ship repairs and alterations. Oceaneering combined CLT product lines with its Diving and Off-shore Structure product lines and created a new division within Oceaneering. This new division was named the Oceaneering International, Inc.-Marine Services Division (OII-MSD). OII-MSD is a division of Oceaneering International, Inc. (OII).
OII-MSD offers a wide range of shipboard repairs and alterations for a myriad of customers, including Naval Shipyards, Navy Laboratories, Naval Sea Systems Command and operational Fleet Type Commanders. OII-MSD provides a unique capability combining traditional ship repair work along with underwater ship husbandry. Our divers perform underwater welding and underwater ship repair providing a “Virtual Drydock” while performing many repairs and modifications that normally require a ship to be docked.
OII-MSD is one of only three non-government activities certified to perform Submarine Safety (SUBSAFE) work on U.S. Navy Nuclear Submarines. OII-MSD performs SUBSAFE repairs under the sponsorship of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Ships Systems Engineering Station (NSWCCD-SSES), Philadelphia. OII-MSD provides a wide range of shipboard repairs and alterations. This includes: hull and backup valve repairs, pump repairs, torpedo tube work, hatch repairs and grooming, propulsion train work, condenser work, hull repair work, electrical/electronic repairs and grooming as well as SHIPALT, ORDALT, MACHALT, OPALT and TEMPALT installations. OII-MSD typically has “tiger teams” and alteration installation teams working in San Diego, CA; Pearl Harbor, HI; Bremerton, WA; Groton, CT; Norfolk, VA and/or overseas.
In addition to ship repair and modernization, OII-MSD provides underwater ship husbandry and hull structural repairs, as well as off-shore structure repairs of dams, piers, levees, bridges and underwater tunnels.
OII-MSD is a full service off-shore construction/ship repair activity that provides the customer with options that are not available anywhere else and has saved the government and commercial customers millions of dollars and in-port time.
