Assembly
The assembly team at OES is made up of dedicated, trained professionals, with many years of experience in the entertainment field. Working from thorough drawing sets generated by the design group, the trained technicians assemble, wire, plumb and test the systems in record time.
Critical procedures, such as for painting, piping, fastener torque, actuator installation, and many others, are fully documented and rigorously followed throughout the assembly process.
Our staff includes certified hydraulic specialists, certified electricians, and experienced mechanical technicians.
Assembly facilities in Upper Marlboro, MD include a 50 foot tall ‘high-bay’ area for particularly large projects. We also have assembly facilities in Orlando, Florida. And our in-house hydraulic systems provide ample testing horsepower for even the largest of projects.
All products are completely tested, using the show control systems which will operate the equipment. The actual motion profiles to be used in the show are used to put the system through its paces, and the resultant data is carefully logged. You, the end user, are part of final acceptance testing and approval, and see for yourself that all is functioning properly.
Concept Design
Whether your application is an animated figure, show action equipment, a custom ride system, scene control system, or an effects platform, OES works closely with your team to understand your expectations and to clearly define all operational requirements and constraints. The result is a ready-to-operate, reliable, turnkey system.
Refinement of concept and detailed examination of performance criteria is facilitated by our team of professional artists, designers, and engineers, having years of experience in the industry, and using a suite of powerful software tools.
Site Survey: To ensure that all physical and logistic issues are accounted for, the OES project team reviews all site conditions, and works with your planning department to determine key interfaces.
Rendering: Using such tools as Alias Power Animator®, Adobe Photoshop®, and Corel Presentations®, concepts are brought to life, to assist your team in evaluating and adjusting the various criteria for your attraction.
Solid Modeling: As the concept matures, three-dimensional solid models are developed using Pro/Engineer® and Solid Works®. These models are used for geometry evaluation, concept validation, and presentation.
Geometry Definition: Vital to proper performance is the accurate definition of all required motions: each joint, each position, and overall equipment motion envelopes are detailed in Pro/Engineer and AutoCAD®.Preliminary Layouts: Prior to commencement of detailed design and engineering, plan and elevation layouts are presented to you for review, comment, and approval.
Design
Concurrent with the engineering effort, OES products are being developed by our design and drafting group. Quickly and accurately, the various components of your equipment are detailed within Pro/Engineer or Solid Works modeling software.
This is where the engineered solutions are brought together with design experience, field expertise, and manufacturing know-how, to provide you with equipment which is rugged, reliable, and serviceable.
Our 3D design capabilities ensure all structures and hydraulic / electrical components are properly configured within any complex figure envelope, while easily available for maintenance.
Our automated methodologies allow us to accurately transition from show concept to design, integrate skin envelope requirements, and account for potential interferences.
OES has established an extensive library of pre-engineered standard components for critical areas – components which have withstood the test of time in adverse environments, while in constant service.
Our design / drafting group is second to none in meeting national drafting standards, and generates complete, accurate drawing sets which lead not only to more efficient manufacturing, but also straightforward maintenance.
Drawing linework is all created from the modeling software, and final dimensioned drawings are prepared in and provided to you in AutoCAD format. This ensures that drawings are prepared in the most accurate manner, in the most efficient amount of time. Part data is linked to an external data base system, facilitating the transition to procurement and manufacture.
Engineering
What sets OES apart is its commitment to long-term solutions, and its engineering expertise in bringing them about.
Our staff of mechanical and controls engineers, with their many years of experience, are equipped in both knowledge and tools to solve even the most difficult conceptual challenges. Further, our engineers stay with the project from beginning to end, ensuring quality and conformance throughout.
In some cases, equipment requires only fundamental engineering techniques. But often, especially with large animated figures and show action equipment, it takes capabilities such as OES’s to ensure guest safety, reliability, and maintainability.
Dynamic motion analysis, performed with Working Model 3D®, allows up-front understanding of the forces acting on a figure or other piece of equipment. This information is based on the actual three-dimensional models of your products, models which are being developed during the concurrent design processes. Based on this activity, actuators, joint pins, rod ends, and other critical components are selected. Critical factors such as bearing friction, actuator force, skin elastic effects, and hydrodynamic loading are also incorporated.
Finite element stress analysis, using Cosmos®, provides a detailed look into the strength and fatigue life of the various components, so that structural members are sized and designed appropriately, with a guaranteed structural life expectancy. The analysis takes into account worst case show conditions, and additionally (in many installations) seismic, wind, and water forces, and is in conformance with AWS, DIN, and API codes.
Throughout all engineering efforts, OES pays particular attention to data accuracy and documentation. Tools such as Microsoft Excel®, Microsoft Access® and other products are employed by our team in all phases of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic engineering.
Installation
OES’s site services teams are comprised of experienced individuals who carefully and thoroughly complete the equipment installation. Carrying through with the same level of expertise as all foregoing processes, our technicians systematically and professionally handle even the largest projects.
And not only do we install our own equipment, OES site services also handles many other projects as well.
Installation of other equipment manufacturer’s products, debugging / retrofit / overhauling of existing equipment, site surveys and structural strain gauge testing are some of the many capabilities this group provides.
Backed up by Oceaneering International’s worldwide network of facilities and manpower, OES has the ability, knowledge, and tactical flexibility to meet your special on-site needs, whether large or small.
And to keep your systems running in top condition, OES provides thorough maintenance manuals with all systems it sells. Further, we also provide options for support contracts and master services agreements, to keep your attractions operating smoothly and reliably.
Manufacturing
As a complete supplier of animated figure and structural/mechanical systems, OES has in-house facilities and qualified vendors for performing fabrication, machining, blasting, painting, and quality inspection.
With over 60,000 square feet in shop space, and a full compliment of machining and fabrication systems, OES is uniquely qualified in the entertainment industry as a large scale, turn-key systems provider.
